Today, my fellow floor mates and I visited People Magazine in New York City. We met the deputy news editor, Michael Zennie. He graduated from Indiana University in 2008. He walked us around their headquarters and showed us numerous production sets and the newsroom. We were introduced to their senior crime editor and former interns who now work for the magazine.
Zennie offered us very good advice and allowed us to ask questions. He explained that not all articles are centered solely on material and information given to the magazine, that some articles are based on pictures. For example, he explained that there were photos sent in of singer Rihanna and actor Leonardo DiCaprio allegedly kissing. The entire article was based off the images and the information received from sources connected to both celebrities.
The visit to People magazine was a really eye opening experience, and it encouraged me to pursue my dreams of being a journalist. The advice that Michael Zennie gave to us made an impression.
