Naremore article analyzes recently released Orson Welles film
An article by chancellor’s professor emeritus James Naremore published in the winter 2018 edition of Cineaste analyzes an Orson Welles film released last year after 40 years of development.
The article, “The Death of the Auteur: Orson Welles’ ‘The Other Side of the Wind,'” is a critical analysis of “The Other Side of the Wind,” which was shot and partially edited in the 1970s. It was then reconstructed for theaters and Netflix last year.
Naremore argues that “The Other Side of the Wind” was not Welles’ last film, but it is valuable as a time capsule. Naremore also says the film reflects Welles’ autobiographical style, but with a more cutting-edge style.
