Marzouki named Sawyer Seminar Graduate Student Fellow
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Center for Documentary Research and Practice at Indiana University Bloomington have honored doctoral student Mohamed El Marzouki with a 2016-17 Sawyer Seminar Graduate Student Fellowship.
Last year, a Sawyer Seminar grant was awarded to associate professor Joshua Malitsky for his group project, Documentary Media and Historical Transformations. That $175,000 grant was used to turn his team’s project into a yearlong seminar as part of the Sawyer Seminars fellowship program, which, as a fellow, Marzouki now has an active role in.
The seminars will consist of five two-day conferences, each comparing the relationship between documentaries and a different historical transformation.
Marzouki will help organize the Sawyer Seminar and will pursue a research project around the seminar’s primary goal, which is to investigate how documentaries uncover and affect important historical transformations.
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation supports projects on comparative research that look at causes of modern social and cultural conditions.
