Krahnke awarded Morley Teaching Award
Media School Senior Lecturer Steven Krahnke has been awarded one of two first annual David and Cheryl Morley Career Distinguished Teaching Awards in the College of Arts and Sciences. Krahnke’s Morley Teaching Award is in honor of Kathy O. Smith for non-tenure track faculty.
Krahnke has taught at IU for twenty years, first in a joint appointment to Telecommunications and Radio-TV services (WTIU) and now in the Media School. He has been intimately involved in curricular design and development in a number of units, and this past year he mounted a production of The Twilight Zone, organizing students both on the acting and production sides, while also challenging them to take old Twilight Zone scripts and make them address current social issues.
He has produced or helped produce some of the most iconic programs offered on PBS, including Hoop Dreams, Liberty! The American Revolution, Kinsey, American Photography and Harp Dreams, among many others. He has won two Emmy Awards and has been nominated for several; he has won multiple Cine Golden Eagle awards; and he has been managing producer of programs which have been nominated or won the Academy Award and the Peabody Award. He was founding Managing Director of the prestigious National Production department at Twin Cities Public Television. Prior to that he had an extensive career in the performing arts.
