Academic Honors

Each year, high-achieving Media School students are invited to join academic honors organizations, including Kappa Tau Alpha, Alpha Delta Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa.

Kappa Tau Alpha

Kappa Tau Alpha is a national college honor society that recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication.

Membership into the society is earned through academic achievement and is a mark of highest distinction and honor

The membership benefits include national recognition for academic excellence, lifetime membership, certificate of membership and a keypin.

The national organization was founded in 1910 and the Indiana University Chapter of Kappa Tau Alpha was established in 2011.

Alpha Delta Sigma

Alpha Delta Sigma Honor Society is a national honor society sponsored by the American Advertising Federation that recognizes academic achievement in advertising studies.

ADS is the only national, professional advertising honorary society in American higher education. Advertising students are nominated for membership in ADS.

The national chapter was founded in 1913 and the IU chapter was established in 2015.

Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 and is the nation’s oldest honor society for students in arts and sciences.

The organization is a distinguished and exclusive society that honors successful liberal arts students at Indiana University and across the country.

The membership benefits of Phi Beta Kappa include lectureships, scholarships, two quarterly publications and a lifetime network of more than 500,000 accomplished members throughout the nation.
