Jay Kincaid, BA’82, is a 10-time Emmy Award winner who directs CBS Sports Network’s coverage of the Super Bowl and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on top of a weekly NFL pregame show and a full-time faculty position as The Media School’s director of facilities and technology.
At The Media School, Kincaid keeps Franklin Hall and the Radio-Television Building running smoothly. He supervises several full-time and student employees, and he provides technical support for the Indiana Daily Student, IU Student Television, and WIUX student radio. He directed and implemented the $5.5 million technical budget for the renovation of Franklin Hall in preparation for the creation of The Media School in 2016.
Kincaid also teaches Media School courses in studio production and freelance management, and he serves as the faculty mentor for the fall 2020 cohort of Media Scholars.
After working and teaching in Bloomington every Monday through Friday, Kincaid travels to New York 30 weeks a year. On those Sundays, he arrives at the CBS Broadcast Center at about 4 a.m. to direct the four-hour “That Other Pregame Show.”
He also directs CBS Sports Network’s on-site coverage of the Super Bowl and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Kincaid often uses his role at CBS Sports to benefit Media School students. He gives Media School students the opportunity to fill freelance runner spots CBS Sports has to cover major sporting events, and he has taken students to the Super Bowl and the Final Four.
Before taking on his current role at The Media School, Kincaid was senior director at WTIU, where he started in 1999.
There, he directed a variety of shows, including the news and feature show “The Weekly Special” and the children’s show “Friday Zone,” which both won regional Emmy awards. He has also directed coverage of a range of IU events, including football and women’s basketball games, commencements, State of the University addresses, Herman B Wells’ funeral, and former President Michael McRobbie’s installation.
Kincaid began his career as a production associate at NBC Sports, eventually directing Olympic coverage for NBC Sports and CBS Sports. He covered the games from Seoul; Barcelona; Atlanta; Sydney; Salt Lake City; Athens; Turin, Italy; Lillehammer, Norway; Albertville, France; and Beijing. He has also worked as a director at CNBC, King World Productions, NBA Entertainment, and the Major League Baseball Network.
Kincaid has 10 national Emmy awards, three regional Emmy awards, a CINE Golden Eagle Award, and a Telly Award Bronze. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America.
He and his wife, Jenny, have five children, three of whom are IU graduates and two who are current IU students.
