The Michel Dupagne and Alyx Lin Graduate Travel Fund will support graduate student travel to academic conferences.
Dupagne, MA’90, PhD’94, is a professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Management at the University of Miami School of Communication. He also serves as the graduate media management adviser at the school.
Lin, OD’93, is an optometrist in private practice.
Both Dupagne and Lin attended IU, which is where they met.
The loveliness of IU’s campus was what sparked Dupagne’s interest in attending graduate school here. When he arrived for his visit on a late evening in the spring of 1987, he said he was “smitten by the outside beauty of the illuminated Main Library.”
After talking with faculty in the Department of Telecommunications and learning more about the media management master’s program, his interest was secured. He then was accepted into the doctoral program in mass communications after completing his master’s degree here.
"My wife and I believe that being able to present a paper's findings at a major academic conference in the mass communication field is the first, but vital, step toward research productivity for a graduate student," Dupagne said.
"We hope that the Michel Dupagne and Alyx Lin Graduate Travel Fund will inspire other IU alumni to give back to Indiana University in their own personal ways."
Dupagne spent the 2018-19 academic year as a visiting professor in the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jia Tong University in China.
He also co-authored “High-Definition Television: A Global Perspective” with Peter B. Seel, PhD’95, and has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Media Economics and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly.
