Graduate M.S. internship leads to full-time job at Procter & Gamble
“I majored in marketing and minored in sports marketing and management (as an undergrad student). I also was a member of the Indiana women's golf team and in a sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. I’m now in The Media School getting a master's in strategic communications.
I wanted to have the skill of going deep into the weeds of research and then making that into, ‘How can I communicate that to my consumer? How can I communicate that to my buyer?’ And I wanted to make my own individual path to separate myself from other people around me.
Investor relations, in simple terms, are individuals or groups of people that communicate specific financial information and disseminate that to their stakeholders or their investors. My goal is to take information, make it more accessible for people to understand, and then use social media to get that information in an accessible way for individuals to understand.
It really was a shot in the dark (applying to Procter & Gamble). I just turned my resumé into their LinkedIn profile.
Honestly, the last project was very high-pressure. But it also prepared you to understand what role you truly would have in the company. If you could succeed in doing this, you could succeed in the job. On my last day, they sat me down with several of the company members, and they gave me a contract and said, ‘You have succeeded in this internship, and we think you will succeed at this company — would you like to join us?’
I chose here (The Media School) because I wanted to marry the business world and the media world and curate a study that best suited what I wanted to do for my future. My parents own a public relations firm in Indianapolis called Dittoe PR. I wanted to study something here that could transition to — if I ever wanted to — a part of their company later down the line. But for now, I'm following my own path.”
