Media School faculty include award-winning professionals with years of practical experience in their fields, as well as internationally ranked researchers.
Interdisciplinary at its core, the Journalism unit encompasses multiple research, creative and professional traditions organized around the fundamental notions that media and communication play pivotal roles in influencing political, legal, economic, policymaking and cultural institutions and in shaping our everyday experiences of the world. Research and creative activity conducted within the unit address the content, norms and practices of multiple media and professional worlds, including journalism, public relations, advertising, strategic communication, digital and new media, and entertainment and popular culture. Researchers in Journalism embrace theories and perspectives emerging from social scientific, humanities, legal, historical and critical-cultural traditions, and the unit values equally an array of empirical methods — established and emergent quantitative, qualitative, legal, historical and mixed methods — that scholars can employ to generate data and evidence for their research. Professionally oriented faculty include industry veterans who have achieved distinction in areas including, advertising, journalism, photojournalism, public relations, television and radio.
