Waller chapter makes case for study of nontheatrical cinema
New Cinema History has predominantly focused on the movie theater, but professor Greg Waller makes the case for applying its principles to the examination of film screened outside the theater, such as in the home or classroom, in a chapter of the just-published “The Routledge Companion to New Cinema History.”
Waller’s essay, “The New Nontheatrical Cinema History?” argues that cinema is “multi-sited,” and there is unexplored potential for the study of the history of multi-sited cinema and its varied types of vendors, sponsors and programming through NCH research models.
The book is edited by Daniel Biltereyst, Richard Maltbhy and Philippe Meers.
