Tech investor Tony Conrad to talk Sept. 18
Technology entrepreneur Tony Conrad, BA’84 (telecommunications), will talk at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union. Presented by the IU Alumni Association, the lecture is free and open to the public.
Conrad is a founding partner in True Ventures, which has invested in several start-up companies that eventually became significant players in the tech field. Among them are Automattic, makers of WordPress, where Conrad is a board member; MakerBot; High Fidelity; Typekit; and Smarterer. He also is founder and CEO of About.Me and Sphere.
Conrad will talk about his latest work at About.Me, a personal social media platform, sharing the story behind the site and how students may use it efficiently.
Earlier in the day, Conrad will talk to classes and groups of students on campus.
During his IU years, Conrad minored in business, and was active at the Indiana Daily Student’s business office and in Little 500. His early career included several years at Group Danone in France and Southeast Asia, where he worked in brand development. He began investing in small tech companies, many of which were bought by larger companies, in the late 1990s.
