Study looks at viewer reaction to mediated violence
“Empathizing and Systemizing (Un)justified Mediated Violence: Psychophysiological Indicators of Emotional Response,” a study by Lelia Samson, PhD’15, and associate professor Rob Potter, has been published in the journal Media Psychology.
The study describes viewers’ reactions to film clips portraying violence that was either justified or not justified by the films’ narratives.
Samson now is a postdoctoral fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Potter is director of the school’s Institute for Communication Research, where the two conducted much of their research for this study.
