Students heading for alternative spring break tell ‘Stories from Home’
Before leaving for alternative spring break service learning trips, students recorded audio stories for the Office of the Provost’s “Stories from Home” project. Recorded in a mobile studio, the stories are part of IU’s bicentennial activities.
Two groups of students are spending this week’s spring break on service learning trips in Costa Rica and the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida. They will use their storytelling and multimedia skills to tell stories from Costa Rica and create promotional material for the National Park Service.
Four other classes of students will spend their spring breaks reporting on religion and conflict in the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland, following in the footsteps of Ernie Pyle, uncovering the media city in Hong Kong, and learning more about reporting at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.
