Smith article finds Twitter use impacts sports viewing enjoyment
An article by assistant professor Lauren Smith about sports fans’ use of Twitter has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media.
“Tweet, Retweet, Favorite: The Impact of Twitter Use on Enjoyment and Sports Viewing,” by Smith, Ann Pegoraro of Laurentian University and Sally Ann Cruikshank of Middle Tennessee State University, examines why sports fan use Twitter and social media’s effect on sports viewership. It finds that sports fans primarily use Twitter to augment their consumption of sporting events, and heavy Twitter users report higher enjoyment levels when using the social network while watching sports.
Findings also suggest the manner in how fans use Twitter impacts their enjoyment.
