Schwibs’ ‘Thunder Rolls!’ documentary screens at film festivals and theater
“Thunder Rolls: The World of Blind Baseball,” a documentary produced by Senior Lecturer Susanne Schwibs and School of Education Professor Emeritus Robert Arnove, was recently featured at several film events around the country.
“Thunder Rolls!” follows the Indy Thunder Beep Baseball team preparing for the Beep Baseball World Championship. Beep Baseball is a version of baseball for blind and visually impaired athletes. The film follows several players in their everyday life and further shows how sighted and non-sighted individuals work together to achieve a common goal and participate in a national pastime.
On April 20, Schwibs traveled to Key West, Florida, to attend a screening of “Thunder Rolls!” at the Tropic Cinema, participating in a Q&A session after.
The documentary was also selected to showcase at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival in Iowa on April 24 and the Thin Line Film Fest in Texas on April 28. Schwibs traveled to Denton, Texas, to participate in a filmmaker Q&A.
Earlier this year, Schwibs’ presented the film at the Kellogg Eye Center of the University of Michigan. The film was also shown at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis last year.
