Scharf places third in annual Keating Feature Writing Competition
Junior Nadia Scharf earned third place and a $1,250 prize at the annual Keating Feature Writing Competition and Excellence in Journalism awards this past weekend.
The competition, sponsored annually by the Indianapolis Press Club Foundation, gives 10 student journalists five hours to interview, write and file a story in downtown Indianapolis. The top three writers receive journalism scholarships of $3,000, $1,750 and $1,250.
Scharf’s story covered the holiday light installation at Monument Circle, sharing the backgrounds of some of the volunteers who facilitate the display. Other IU student finalists included Cate Charron, Mary Claire Molloy and Lauren Ulrich.
The competition was named after the late Tom Keating, former columnist for the Indianapolis Star and Lilly Endowment executive.
