Past president of Media School Alumni Association board receives volunteer award
Media School Alumni Association board member Millicent Martin Emery, BAJ’00, was awarded the Indiana University Alumni Association Volunteer Leadership Award during Alumni Leaders Weekend on June 23 and 24. The board honored Martin Emery among five other recipients of the award during the Alumni Awards Banquet on June 23.
The Indiana Alumni Association brings alumni together to volunteer and advocate for the university, creating a community “committed to one another and our alma mater.” The IUAA hosts an Alumni Leaders Weekend, which includes the awards banquet, volunteer networking, important meetings, and an alumni barbecue.
Martin Emery is the past president of The Media School Alumni Association. She was nominated for the Volunteer Leadership Award for her quiet but effective leadership, embodying the IUAA values of collaboration, commitment, inclusion, and pride.
With more than 20 years of service, her commitment has spanned as the School of Journalism transitioned into The Media School and then through the COVID pandemic. She’s been diligent in attending board meetings, is always willing to help nominate fellow alumni for The Media School Distinguished Alumni Awards, assists in grant applications, writes thank you letters to event participants, and shares accolades about students and faculty on social media.
