Monaghan moderates panel at Global Editors Network summit
Professor of Practice Elaine Monaghan will moderate a panel June 23 at the Global Editors Network’s annual GEN Summit in Vienna, Austria.
The theme of the summit, a meeting of more than 750 editors and media innovators from more than 80 countries, is “From Post-Truth To Virtual Reality: Navigating Media’s Future.”
Monaghan’s panel, “When Media Cooperation Works: Three Case Studies,” features new media executives from France, Italy and Britain. They will discuss case studies involving cross-border cooperation among news organizations to cover the migrant crisis; a collaborative project in Italy related to open data access and the Mafia; and an example of international cooperation in preserving independent media coverage and exploring the negative impact of technology on copyright ownership.
Keynote speakers at the summit include Martin Baron, executive editor of The Washington Post, Campbell Brown, head of news partnerships at Facebook, and Ben Smith, editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed.
Monaghan was a longtime international correspondent with Reuters, as well as Washington, D.C., correspondent for The Times.
