Media School adds sports media minor
Students outside The Media School will be able to add a sports media minor to their degree starting this fall.
The new 15-credit program will introduce students to the practice of sports media, teaching skills including sports writing, sports broadcasting, social media use in sports and storytelling with sports as a subject. They will develop skills in critical thinking, preparation, interviewing, writing effective sports content, delivering sports content successfully and understanding how the subject of sports media fits into the larger cultural landscape.
The curriculum consists of one core course, MSCH-C250 Story Lab 1, which helps to establish best practices in storytelling across a variety of content forms. Students will also choose from sports-specific courses, including Sports Media Literacy, Sports Writing and Reporting, Sportscasting, Social Media in Sports, Sports Video Storytelling, Esports Journalism and more.
The sports media minor is one of several new additions. The school also recently added minors in fashion media and public relations.
Students interested in the minor may schedule an appointment with a Media School advisor.
