Martins, Malacane co-author study on preteen sitcoms
Assistant professor Nicole Martins and doctoral student Mona Malacane are authors of a study of young viewers and sitcoms published in the journal Communication Research in April.
The study, titled “Liked Characters Get a Moral Pass: Young Viewers’ Evaluation of Social and Physical Aggression in Tween Sitcoms,” examined the reactions of preteens to social or physical aggression in sitcoms and how these reactions varied based on whether a protagonist or antagonist was committing the aggressions.
The co-authors of this study are associate professor Marie Louise-Mares and graduate student Alanna Peebles, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
