Mailland paper discusses Polanski case
Assistant professor Julien Mailland’s paper, “Roman Polanski and the ‘Artists’ Minister’: American Criminal Law v. French Cultural Diplomacy,” was published in the spring issue of Sports & Entertainment Law Journal.
The article examines the diplomatic questions raised by the United States’ attempts to have film director Roman Polanski extradited from Europe following a child molestation case. It discusses the difference between the United States’ interpretation of the events surrounding Polanski as a criminal case in California v. Polanski, and France’s decision to treat it as an international politics case in U.S. v. France.
Mailland’s research often focuses on telecommunications networks, ecosystems design, law and policy, and international communication and financial technologies.
