Lenoir named IU Presidential Arts and Humanities Fellow
Assistant professor Lisa Lenoir has been named a 2024-2025 IU Presidential Arts and Humanities Fellow, receiving $50,000 in support of her academic work.
The Fellows Program is a year-long program supporting the work of IU faculty poised to become national and international leaders in their respective fields. Fellows are required to attend monthly fellows’ meetings and use a portion of the fund to bring guests to an IU campus to share their work with faculty, students, staff, and local communities.
Lenoir’s research focuses on media discourses surrounding journalism, activism, and identity and consumer culture. She plans to use the award to further her work exploring the life and career of journalist Mattie Smith Colin. Colin was a reporter for Chicago Defender from 1950-2002, and she covered the return of Emmett Till’s body to Chicago in 1955, which became a flash point in the civil rights movement.
