Krahnke, Schwibs documentary wins Golden Palm
Lecturers Steve Krahnke and Susanne Schwibs were awarded the Golden Palm at the Mexico International Film Festival for their 90-minute documentary entitled Cuba: The Forgotten Revolution.
The documentary, produced last year, also has been distributed by PBS and appeared at the One World International Human Rights film festival in Brussels. It just became available on Netflix.
Krahnke and Schwibs used a collection of interviews and footage from Cuba to tell the stories of José Antonio Echeverría and Frank Pais, two lesser-known leaders from the Cuban revolution. The film features interviews with family of Echeverria and Pais, revolution participants, scholars and historians.
Both filmmakers have won Emmy Awards for previous work. Krahnke is the national program director at WTIU, and Schwibs has produced several documentaries for the station. They are working on distributing the film nationwide in Cuba and Mexico, along with other countries around the world.
