IDS, WIUX collaborate to deliver live election coverage
As election night approaches, WIUX is preparing to provide live coverage on 99.1 FM from 7 p.m. to about 12:30 a.m. Members will deliver real-time updates on results and race developments.
This year, IDS and WIUX reporters will also be stationed at polling sites and calling into WIUX to share firsthand accounts of voter turnout and the atmosphere at the polls. Their insights will give listeners a closer look at the election process and community engagement.
An on-air staff member of WIUX and a journalism major within The Media School, Isabella Vesperini, emphasized the importance of this live coverage. “We want to make sure our listeners feel connected to the election and fully understand what’s at stake.”
Back in the studio, WIUX on-air staff will discuss the day’s events, providing context to the results as they come in. This effort not only informs the audience but also encourages conversations about voter participation. For WIUX, election night is a chance to engage with democracy and hone journalism skills.
The IDS will also provide in-depth, live coverage of the election with real-time updates on its website throughout the day. A dedicated section for the live election coverage will feature a scrolling page with timely updates to give readers immediate access to the latest developments as they unfold.
“Being that we are one of the few outlets covering the election in the area, it is important that we provide timely information to our community,” said Andrew Miller, IDS reporter.
“As a student learning lab, this experience is the closest our journalists can get to working in a professional newsroom. It offers them a chance to develop skills in research, reporting, and collaborating while covering important issues.”
The IUSTV team will also report the latest analysis, results, and updates from local, state, and federal races starting at 7 p.m. on YouTube and Facebook.
Tune in on November 5 for live coverage from the IDS, IUSTV, and WIUX to stay informed as election results are reported.
