HSJI’s Teresa White receives IHSPA Lifetime Membership
High School Journalism Institute Director and Media School Senior Lecturer Teresa White received the Indiana High School Press Association Lifetime Membership award during the association’s state convention at Franklin College on Jan. 26.
IHSPA executive director Ryan Gunterman, B.S.’02 and a previous Indiana Daily Student editor, presented the award. White was nominated for the Lifetime Membership by Heather Nichols, the adviser for the Paoli High School Media Department. Gunterman read an excerpt from the nomination during the presentation.
IHSPA awards the Lifetime Membership annually to honor those who have contributed to Indiana scholastic journalism as both educators and journalism professionals. Recipients receive a lifetime membership plaque and pin.
This is the third award White has received from IHSPA. In 2006, she received the Ella Sengenberger Indiana Student Media Adviser of the Year award, recognizing journalism educators demonstrating commitment, leadership, and sound ethical practices. She was presented with the Dr. Louis E. Ingelhart Friend of the Student Press in 2011 for outstanding contribution to scholastic journalism education.
As director of the HSJI, White has provided students with the opportunity to explore and experience journalism in an educational environment. She also teaches courses in media literacy, introductory reporting, grammar and editing, media ethics, and journalism education.
In addition, White advocates for scholastic journalism, visiting Indiana high schools. She is involved with the Journalism Education Association, Bloomington Press Club, and the Scholastic Journalism Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
