Grabe named ICA fellow
Associate dean Betsi Grabe has been selected as an International Communication Association fellow, a status that recognizes distinguished scholarly contributions to the broad field of communication.
Grabe is The Media School’s third-ever ICA fellow, joining distinguished professor Annie Lang and distinguished professor emeritus David Weaver. Living ICA fellows account for just 2.9 percent of ICA membership.
Grabe’s induction was ratified by a vote of the ICA Board of Directors at the organization’s annual conference this weekend in Washington, D.C.
Most of Grabe’s scholarly work focuses on media images. In content analyses of visuals, she looks for patterns in the media’s construction of reality. She is author of “Image Bite Politics: News and the Visual Framing of Elections.”
