Game design student team pitches to Indie Game Foundry, named runner-up

A team of game design students – Michael Betar IV, Edison Li, Elayne Mason, Joshua Mom, Kat Steele, Deryk Tibbs, and Brenden Wood — designed a game pitch for the Indie Game Foundry competition on Dec. 20. Their game, Forecast, was identified as a runner-up among the 50 games submitted.
The competition was held virtually, and teams recorded their pitches to be reviewed by the judges. There were two rounds of pitching: pitches were first due on Dec. 20, the team heard back from the program on Jan. 3, and they submitted additional materials by Jan. 6. Results were announced Jan. 12. Winning pitches will be guided through full development over the next year.
The student team learned about the competition over Thanksgiving break last semester and quickly began to work on their pitch. Their game employs the player at a fictional organization and tasks them with managing the weather of cities during work shifts. The game takes on a 2000s vaporwave aesthetic.
The team recorded a prototype demo to share with the Indie Game Foundry team. As a runner-up, they received feedback praising the game’s aesthetic while encouraging them to further connect the game’s narrative and gameplay. The student team continues to work on the game and hopes to pitch it again in the future.
