Fernando wins News-Decoder Storytelling Contest
Senior Christine Fernando is one of two winners of the university category of News-Decoder’s international Storytelling Contest.
Fernando’s story, “‘Brain waste’ exacts human and economic toll on the U.S.,” is about skilled immigrants who can’t practice their trades in the U.S. because their licenses or degrees aren’t recognized here.
She wrote the story in professor of practice Joe Coleman’s Immigration Reporting class.
She’ll receive a $500 prize.
The other winner was Claire Wang of SYA France.
