Fargo article proposes source protection options in absence of shield law
Associate professor Anthony Fargo proposes four methods for protecting journalistic sources in the absence of a federal shield law in an article published in the latest issue of Communication Law and Policy.
“Protecting Journalists’ Sources Without a Shield: Four Proposals” argues that Congress is unlikely to pass a federal shield law in the near future.
Fargo suggests improving whistleblower protections, reforming the document classification system, persuading news organizations to allow sources to speak anonymously rather than relying on journalists’ protections and persuading news organizations to use encrypted digital systems to communicate with sources.
