Demkovich takes 2nd at Keating Competition
Media School senior Laurel Demkovich placed second in this weekend’s 32nd annual Thomas R. Keating Competition, a spot writing feature contest open to journalists from Indiana colleges.
The 10 finalists were given five hours to report and write a story from the Indy International Festival. Demkovich, an Ernie Pyle Scholar, won $1,750 for her story about the festival queen, a child of half-Chinese descent.
Junior Lydia Gerike also competed as a finalist.
The competition is sponsored by the Indianapolis Press Club Foundation.
