BFCA closes Black History Month with reception, screening
The Black Film Center & Archive closed out Black History Month programming on Friday with a screening of “Finally Got the News” as tribute to the official theme this year, African American Labor. The screening was preceded by a discussion with Media School doctoral student Cole Nelson, who edited a close-up featured in Black Camera: An International Film Journal Issue 15.2. A reception was also held in the Franklin Hall commons.

- The close-up edited by Nelson revisits the “Finally Got the News…” documentary situating it broadly in the “long 1960s of labor militancy” in the U.S. and particularly regarding Black radical activism in Detroit’s auto plants under the League of Revolutionary Black Workers. The close-up comprises an introduction and essay by Nelson, along with contributions from several others. (Photo by Emma Ramirez | The Media School)
