Anders named Brook Baker Collegiate Journalist of the Year
Senior Caroline Anders was named the Brook Baker Collegiate Journalist of the Year by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association.
The award is presented annually to one Indiana collegiate journalist. The award is in honor of Brook Baker, the late campus editor of Vincennes University’s the Trailblazer.
In their comments, the judges specifically commended Anders for her investigation into sexual harassment allegations against mayoral candidate Amanda Barge. Barge ultimately ended her campaign in response to the story.
“Her ability to tackle extremely difficult assignments, such as the in-depth look into sexual harassment charges against a mayoral candidate, is a testament to her commitment to accuracy and fairness,” the judges wrote. “That piece in particular showcases multiple sides of a difficult story. That she also stood up to pressure not to publish is highly commendable.”
The award has gone to an IU student the past three years. Laurel Demkovich, BAJ’19, won in 2019, and Carley Lanich, BAJ’18, won in 2018.
