American Journalist article published in JMCQ
Professors emeriti David Weaver and Cleve Wilhoit, and former IU journalism professor Lars Willnat, now of Syracuse University, have published an article in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly based on findings from their latest in a 46-year series of studies on U.S. journalists.
“The American Journalist in the Digital Age: Another Look at U.S. News People” is based on a 2013 survey of 1,080 journalists. It evaluates trends in demographics, working conditions and professional values, as previous studies have done, and introduces new questions about the impact of social media in newsrooms.
The authors published a book on their findings, The American Journalist in the Digital Age: A Half-Century Perspective, in November. The book is the fourth in a series Weaver and Wilhoit began in the early 1980s, expanding on benchmark research conducted at the University of Illinois in 1971.
