Alumnus Guido Stempel dies
Guido Stempel III, BA’49, MA’51, distinguished professor emeritus of journalism at Ohio University, died May 31 in Columbus, Ohio. He was 87.
Stempel, nephew of longtime IU Journalism chair John Stempel, held several leadership positions in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio, serving as director from 1972-79 and director of the Scripps Survey Research Center from 2002-08.
He was a prolific researcher and author, and for 17 years, he was editor of Journalism Quarterly. He received numerous accolades from his peers, including AEJMC’s Paul H. Deutschmann Award for Excellence in Research in 2007.
