MSCH-P436: Live from L.A. — Pros Make Movies
Academia is an essential element to a quality education in film. However, experiential learning is also very important as taught by people who are in the trenches in the business every single day, rocking and rolling with every new change and challenge. Sometimes the mountain must come to Mohammed, and Hollywood must come to Bloomington.
This course will include a series of Skype lectures followed by Q&A sessions led by guest speakers representing each aspect of the moviemaking process, from idea to multi-platform distribution, plus a foray into TV/streaming and animation.
The first class will be an introduction to producing by professor of practice Michael Uslan. This will be followed by classes devoted to Skype lectures provided by such pros as:
- an IP owner
- an agent and manager
- an entertainment attorney
- an investment banker
- a studio executive
- a screenwriter
- a director
- a casting agent

- a line producer/production manager
- a studio distribution executive
- a studio marketing executive
- a publicity executive or agent

Extensive Q&A will follow each talk. Past speakers have included Mark Hamill on acting for feature films, animation and video games; Jeremy Sisto on acting for television; and Tony Bancroft, the director of Disney’s “Mulan” on animation.
