Hands-on experience in live production, sports broadcasting, and event media

Students in The Media School have access to real production opportunities
through our media productions teams and Cream and Crimson Studios. Whether
you’re interested in sports broadcasting, camera operation, directing, producing,
replay, graphics, audio, technical directing, or live event support, there are
multiple ways to get involved and build practical experience.

Students work alongside professional staff, learn industry-standard equipment,
and gain experience that translates directly to internships, professional
portfolios, and career opportunities in sports media, broadcast production, live
events, film, television, and digital production.

Cream and Crimson Studios and B1G+

Cream and Crimson Studios gives students hands-on experience in sports-
centered live production through IU Athletics events, in-venue videoboard
productions, and B1G+ broadcasts.

Students have opportunities to learn how professional crews work together in
live environments while building technical skill, communication, timing,
preparation, and production discipline.

Part-time production crew member

Media School students who want hands-on experience with live production, studio operations, sports broadcasting, and behind-the-scenes media work can begin by shadowing experienced crew members and then receive training across entry-level production positions.

Crew members may learn how to operate studio cameras, follow direction during productions, run teleprompter, assist with setup and breakdown, support field productions, and work with production tools such as handheld cameras, jib cameras, graphics systems, switchers, replay systems, and audio equipment. Students may also be introduced to control room and field positions, including stage manager, audio, replay, graphics, camera, utility, technical director, director, and producer roles.
