Biography
Gillian Paxton is a first-year M.A. student focused on Media Literacy education and Scholastic Journalism. She received her bachelor of arts in journalism from the Media School in May 2021 and received her secondary teaching license in journalism in May 2022 after student teaching at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
During undergrad, Gillian worked for IU’s Writing Tutorial Services, tutoring peers in writing. The experience sparked an interest in education, particularly media literacy education. She is interested in developing curriculum and teaching practices that help students understand how to critically evaluate media sources and make sense of the fast-paced news landscape around them.
Since January 2017, Gillian has maintained her weekly media blog Absoludicrous, posting her perspectives on music, media, and culture of all kinds. She also works as a staff writer and graphic designer for the Environmental Resilience Institute on IU campus.
