Media School student named IU Student Leader of the Year

Assistant coach of the Men’s Club Ice Hockey at IU Andrew Gus, BA’26, was honored at the Student Organization Awards ceremony on April 8. The awards, hosted by the Student Involvement and Leadership Center through the IU Office of Student Life, recognize the individuals and groups going above and beyond to build community, drive impact, and create meaningful experiences across campus.
The Student Leader of the Year award is given to a student who made a monumental impact while leading with exceptional passion and care for their organization’s mission, members, and the IU community.

In his role, Gus led pregame discussions, breakdowns of opposing teams’ gameplay, and shaped the team’s energy and culture by fostering positive energy.
Before coaching, Gus was a sideline reporter covering the hockey team with the IU Hockey Broadcast Network. Following graduation, he is now working with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a corporate partnerships intern.
