Major named associate dean for undergraduate affairs

Lesa Major, associate professor in The Media School, is the associate dean for undergraduate affairs, effective July 1. She succeeds Galen Clavio, who announced during the spring semester that he would conclude his six years of service on the undergraduate administration team. During that time, Clavio served in leadership roles including director of undergraduate studies and associate dean for undergraduate affairs. Clavio will continue to be actively involved in directing the school’s sports media program.
Major brings previous administrative experience to the position. She served as associate dean for The Media School from 2013 to 2015 and as interim dean of the former IU School of Journalism from 2013 to 2014 as it merged into the new Media School. In those roles, she helped lead undergraduate curriculum development and approval, academic space planning for the $21 million Franklin Hall renovation, budget management, fundraising, and staff management.
Major’s research focuses on media framing analysis, health communication, and public policy. She holds a Ph.D. in mass communication and public affairs from Louisiana State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in mass communication theory, quantitative research methods, science reporting, and broadcast journalism.
