Doctoral student Khamadi publishes study on integrating AI into journalism curriculum

Doctoral student Shitemi Khamadi co-authored “Examining generative artificial intelligence integration in journalism education: Insights from journalism educators in Kenya.”
Drawing on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, a framework used across disciplines to explain how people adopt new technology, the research explores how educators integrate GenAI into their teaching.
The study finds that educators adopt GenAI for its instructional value and professional relevance, while also confronting ethical concerns related to verification, assessment credibility, and academic integrity.
As generative AI becomes more prominent, the research highlights how educators view adoption as a way to address misuse, even as they reconsider how technology should be incorporated into journalism curricula.
Among the authors is Kevin C. Mudavadi, Ph.D.’25.
