Conway receives Sidney Kobre Award for Lifetime Achievement

Professor Emeritus Mike Conway received the 2026 Sidney Kobre Award for Lifetime Achievement by the American Journalism Historians Association Service Awards Committee. Conway will be formally recognized at the AJHA’s 45th annual convention Nov. 5-7 at the Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, South Carolina.
Conway received almost 40 references in his nomination packet. Letters supporting him praised the breadth and depth of his career, highlighting his influential scholarship in broadcast journalism history, sustained and visionary service to the field, and excellence as a teacher and mentor. Colleagues also emphasized his generosity, humility, and commitment to supporting fellow scholars and encouraging students, describing him as someone who consistently advances both the discipline and the people within it.
While at IU, Conway received over 20 journalism and academic awards. He is also the creator and director of the Indiana Broadcast History Archive and a former president of AJHA.
