Media Insights Lecture Series: ‘How the Internet Became Straight’
Dr. Alexander Monea from George Mason University will share how the internet has become an increasingly hostile space for queer expression. This talk will examine the ways in which heteronormativity is increasingly embedded in internet architectures. Dr. Monea will pay specific attention to how systemic anti-LGBTQIA+ biases have become embedded into the content moderation practices at major internet platforms like Google and Facebook.
Dr. Monea will present a one-hour talk followed by a Q&A. The event is in partnership between the Research & Creative Activity and the Cinema & Media Studies unit and will be moderated by Dr. Rachel Plotnick. The event is free and open to the public.
