William Orwig died on Oct. 7, 2023 at exactly 84 years old. 

Orwig served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the establishment of the Berlin Wall before returning to the U.S. and earning a bachelor's degree in radio & television journalism from IU in 1966. His early career was in professional basketball management, starting as the assistant manager of the Indiana Pacers. He worked as the general manager of the Utah Stars before going to work for a decade in television sportcasting for national affiliates in Salt Lake City, San Diego, and San Francisco. 

Orwig also worked as a broker for high-end real estate develops until he retired in 2009. He loved nature, was an avid skier, golfer, and sailor, and was a television sports enthusiast. He was also a true animal lover.
