Bernard Leo Vonderheide passed away on June 5, 2024. After graduating from Indiana University, he worked for the Rural Kentuckian magazine, becoming editor in chief and leading expansion of the Kentucky Farmer magazine franchise across multiple other states.

Vonderheide also worked with the Courier Journal in Louisville and became a feature columnist for the Louisville Times. He was named director of public relations at the University of Kentucky where he served for over 20 years. At the university, he created a radio brodcast, "Campus Scene," that he hosted during halftimes of university basketball and football games. Vonderheide was also involved with several community organizations, including the Salvation Army, United Way, and Lexington Catholic High School.
