All IU schools, departments and units are welcome to rent our production facilities and screening room. Occasionally, the Franklin Hall commons can also be reserved, but access is generally restricted to Media School faculty, staff and student groups.
Procedures for using our facilities
Reserving the commons
The commons is available for the Media School community to use any time the building is open.
If you’re a Media School faculty or staff member, or part of one of our student groups, you can reserve the commons for a special event. Before making your reservation, there are a few factors you should consider.

What are your audiovisual needs?
If you need a specific setup or audiovisual equipment, you must request them at least two weeks in advance of the event by contacting Jay Kincaid. The commons screen must be returned to its original setup at the end of the event.
Will you need any additional services?
The following services are available for a fee:
- Furniture: Extra chairs, tables and a podium are available upon request.
- Stage: If you wish to set up a stage, we will arrange for delivery and setup.
- Setup/tear-down: Setup and tear-down services are available for a charge. Otherwise, you are responsible for arranging furniture for your events and for returning the furniture to its original configuration.
- Food/cleaning: If food is to be served at the event, you must make arrangements to clean up the commons. You can clean the space yourself or request custodial services.
You must put in your request for these services at least two weeks before the event.
Request additional servicesOutside parties can also rent our 20-seat screening room for $100 an hour.
Are you part of The Media School?
Use of the commons by parties outside The Media School will be extremely limited.
Please submit requests to Kenny Smith, digital production manager.
Such events must take place outside class hours and will cost $100 an hour. We request that you include a minimum of 30 minutes each for setup and tear down.
