Lorna Roth to lead BFC/A discussion seminar

The Media School Report • June 13, 2018

Lorna Roth, professor emeritus of communication studies at Concordia University, will host a discussion seminar on readings related to her most recent work on imaging and skin tone from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Black Film Center/Archive, located in the Herman B Wells Library.

In her research, Roth asks, “How do manufacturers and marketers of ‘flesh’-colored products deal with the fact that we are not all Caucasian?” In 2009, she wrote about the effects of light-skin bias on color film stock emulsions and digital camera design.

The day before, she’ll kick off the BFC/A’s fall lecture series with her talk, “Colour Balance: Race, Technologies, and ‘Intelligent Design'” at 1 p.m. in Hodge Hall 2083.
