Travel and professional development requirements

Ernie Pyle Scholars and Media Scholars travel together to New York City during spring break week of their sophomore year to meet with alumni and visit media and communications organizations. This is an important component of the honors program, and the trip is mandatory and sponsored by The Media School. Scholars also get invited on a networking trip to Chicago during their junior or senior year.

The Summer in London program is a central feature of the Ernie Pyle Scholars honors program. Participation is highly encouraged, but is not required. Information about this trip is provided in the fall of your sophomore year.

One of the benefits of being an Ernie Pyle Scholar is the financial support you receive from The Media School for domestic and international travel to enhance your educational endeavors. This support typically includes funding for and a possible regional trip to Chicago during your first year, the required spring break trip to Tampa during your second year, a scholarship for the Summer in London program (amount varies by year) and a scholarship for your first Media School international travel course (amount varies by year and course). The school cannot provide scholarships for non-Media School courses.

Additionally, students may sign up for Media School travel courses at any time during their academic career, if space is available. These courses are independent from the honors program. The school provides supplemental funding for only one MSCH-X478 travel course.
