The Media School Ambassadors are a group of 40 friendly and outgoing juniors and seniors who represent and promote the school at a variety of functions. Ambassadors are eager to share their experiences in media with prospective students, alumni and friends of the program.
During Welcome Week, ambassadors serve on panels and answer questions for incoming Media School students. When well-known media professionals such as David Ignatius and Sage Steele come as part of the Speaker Series, the ambassadors welcome them to IU.
Another perk for ambassadors is the networking road trip to meet Media School alumni and shadow them on their jobs. Each year, the ambassadors travel to Chicago to visit media outlets such as the Chicago Tribune, The Associated Press, Chicago magazine and Big Ten Network, and public relations agencies Hill & Knowlton, Fleishman-Hillard and Edelman.
Ambassadors must be full-time junior or seniors who have been admitted to the Media School. They host at least eight events per school year. Each applicant submits a resume and a cover letter explaining why he or she is the ideal candidate to represent The Media School.
Early in the fall semester, ambassadors attend a team-building session and learn about the program. Ambassadors should have time in their schedules to guide prospective students and their families around campus during these hours: 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
