The Indiana University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has a long tradition at the university.
However, after several years, the chapter was inactive until it was reorganized by then chapter adviser David Adams in spring 2007. David had a vision for the chapter and the young journalists that he interacted with every day. In June 2007, David died in a tragic drowning accident. In his memory, the officers voted to rename the chapter to the David Adams Memorial Chapter.
At the 2008 SPJ National Convention, the chapter was named as the Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year, only a little more than a year after restarting with only four members. Since then, SPJ-IU has continued to thrive, providing resources and connections to our members at the outstanding Indiana University Media School.
