Kioko Ireri Kioko Ireri, PhD’15, published a study on Kenyan journalists in the latest issue of African Journalism Studies.

“Job Autonomy: How Kenyan Newspeople Perceive Their Journalistic Latitudes,” examines Kenyan journalists’ perspective on their autonomy with news selection decisions, as well as the relationship between media freedom and journalistic autonomy.

Results showed that “job satisfaction and job autonomy emerged as the strongest predictors of journalistic autonomy in the Kenyan media.”

Ireri earned his doctorate in mass communications from The Media School. He is now an assistant professor of journalism and mass communication at the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi.
